We open this report by saying Dr. Ovidiu Rosu was once again chased with axes while trying to capture difficult dogs from the community. The actions were happening under the stunned eyes of international photographer and extraordinary friend of ours, Carol Schaffer, here to help fund a considerable portion of the campaign and document our efforts in the area.
This campaign was special for us because it gave us the opportunity to do something we rarely have the chance to do - accept every patient:in during the two days of the campaign. Without false pride, we can emphasize that we have to work with closed appointment lists during our campaigns due to the enormous demand for neutering. We want to treat as many animals as possible, but we are only human. After all, we "move" a whole clinic to remote locations and want to leave the place clean afterwards.
Campaigns like Frumusani remind us of the power of your kind and unrelenting support for our team, and we couldn’t be more grateful that we are able to do our work each week thanks to your efforts to finance life-saving surgeries for those who need it most.
Location: Tulcea, Tulcea county
Period: 07-09.10.2022
Total number of spays: 287 animals
The campaign in Tulcea followed on seamlessly from our very successful event in August, where the local organizers (Asociatia pentru protectia animalelor Rox and The Great Catsby) were inundated with requests.
We actually planned to return to Tulcea for four days at the end of November (19-21) to work off the entire waiting list. Unfortunately, the veterinarians from the region complained to the Veterinary School about our action, so we had to cancel the event. The reason given: The gymnasium was not an approved space for operations. This sudden halt to such a much-needed project leaves us feeling powerless and angry. However, we are converting this fuel into courage to find ways to persuade the authorities to somehow legalize the operation. Failing that, we can always come back in the warm season and work out of our ambulance, which is now licensed as a mobile clinic. That way, no one can stop us.
We are proud to be #teamsust precisely because we are able to say yes and help where we are urgently needed!
Location: Ploiesti, Prahova county
Period: 10.09.2022
Total number of spays: 89
Every morning, we hold a short meeting as a team, where the tasks are distributed. Here in Ploiesti, however, we also held a debriefing at the end of each day. Taking the time for constructive feedback but also the exchange of gratitude for the fact that - thanks to your donations - we can help those who need it most is enormously important and uplifting. It takes a lot of strength and confidence because only intensive, repeated interventions can make a difference in this area. We are deeply grateful that, thanks to your efforts, we are able to do our difficult but rewarding work - and train the next generation of veterinarians in the process.
Ort: Fetesti, Constanta county
Period: 17-18.10.2022
Total number of spays: 236
The team had long days, the first day it became 23h and the second day we returned home around 2am.
Livia Paun, a former volunteer at the public shelter in Fetesti, now officially employed by DAPPD - Direcţia de Administrare a Domeniului Public şi Privat Feteşti (Directorate for the Administration of Public and Private Areas in Fetesti), organized this event.
As she noted, the demand for neutering (especially for cats) in the region was enormous, and - for our next visit, the waiting list is already long. We hope that we can contribute to making the local authorities more amenable to the implementation of the general castration obligation for strays, which is actually enshrined in Romanian law. However, we are of course still committed to educating and informing as many people as possible about responsible pet ownership - which, as we all know, starts with neutering their animals. Thank you very much for supporting our work with your donations - especially under the current difficult conditions worldwide!
