Every year, countless capuchin monkeys are kidnapped from the wild in Peru. They are sold as pets or end up in the illegal wildlife trade. After being confiscated by the authorities, many of these animals arrive frightened, injured, and far too young. SUST-OAH Bello Horizonte in Peru.

After receiving veterinary care at SUST-OAH, the monkeys embark on a long journey, accompanied by Esperanza Verde: They must learn to be monkeys again. How to live in a group. How to find food, recognize dangers, and communicate with others.

Currently living in their enclosure are several young capuchin monkeys who are following exactly this path. Now they are ready for the next step: a gentle release into the adjacent forest, where they can explore nature and yet return to the safety of the sanctuary at any time.

For many years, thanks to your support, Esperanza Verde has been able to rescue, rehabilitate and successfully release numerous capuchin monkeys into the wild.

Now there's not enough space for the animals: Wildlife experts had to turn away animals that urgently needed help. Therefore, we're building a new, larger enclosure – deeper in the jungle.

A place where the monkeys have less contact with humans and more with nature. A place where they can slowly reintegrate into the wild and one day return to the free-living capuchin monkeys.
