The SUST animal shelter and animal orphanage in Galați, Romania, are home to animals that depend on human care. By sponsoring an animal, you can contribute to their well-being and stay informed about their progress.

All three benefit the animals of SUST in Galați. They differ in how long you support an animal and what your contribution is used for.
In May 2015, SUST opened its animal shelter in Galați. Since then, it has financed and organized the entire operation: care by animal keepers, veterinary care, daily food, electricity, water, and much more. The shelter sponsorship program covers a large portion of these costs.
You choose a sponsor animal on behalf of the recipient and officially become its sponsor. Your contribution benefits all animals at the SUST animal shelter until they are placed in a new, good home.

You pay the contribution monthly, most easily by standing order. Quarterly, semi-annual, or annual payments are also possible upon request. The contribution is tax-deductible as a donation.

The Galați Animal Orphanage, opened in 2016, provides free treatment for injured, abandoned, and seriously ill street animals run by SUST. In 2025, they treated 2,420 animals; since the project began, they have treated 17,084.
Most animals return to their familiar surroundings after recovery, having been neutered and treated for parasites. People know them and feed them. Animals that cannot return are adopted by their finders or remain at the SUST animal shelter.
Your treatment sponsorship represents all the animals that arrive at the hospital. It enables surgeries, medication, aftercare, and nursing care.

Animals that are allowed to move to the SUST animal shelter after their recovery receive a medical starter kit in addition to their treatment. A sponsor covers the costs.
In addition, there is a small contribution towards food costs during the initial period; the SUST animal orphanage covers the cost of neutering/spaying. We only offer initial sponsorships via Facebook and Instagram. If an animal remains at the shelter longer, it is placed in the regular sponsorship program, and its initial sponsors then have priority.

For a birthday, Christmas, or just because: Give the gift of an animal sponsorship to someone who loves animals for three, six, or twelve months. The recipient becomes a sponsor and learns how their sponsored animal is doing.
On the animal's page, open the "Give a sponsorship as a gift" form and enter the recipient's name.
The sponsorship certificate and gift card will be sent to you via email for presentation, or directly to the recipient, on a specific day upon request.
You pay the fee for the entire period in advance. Towards the end, we ask the recipient if they would like to continue the sponsorship themselves.
The sponsorship contributions are deposited into a dedicated Swiss account of the Susy Utzinger Foundation for Animal Welfare. They are earmarked and used exclusively for the care of the animals in Galați. As a donation, these contributions are tax-deductible.
