The SUST Animal Orphanage Hospital Beirut (Lebanon) has been giving stray animals in need a second chance since January 1, 2023: Sick and injured strays receive free, professional treatment, surgery, and rehabilitation. In addition to emergency care, the hospital also performs spaying and neutering, thus limiting the overpopulation of stray animals in the region in an animal-friendly and sustainable way.
Countless dogs and cats live on the streets in and around Beirut. Every day, many are abandoned, injured, killed, and/or become ill – most of them die a miserable death without help (passersby usually don't take such animals to the vet for fear of the high costs). The remaining animals reproduce uncontrollably, producing numerous, unfortunately unwanted, offspring.
In the Lebanese capital, many animals are rescued and receive urgently needed veterinary care at the Susy Utzinger Foundation's Orphan Animal Hospital: street dogs and cats (as well as other animal species) find refuge and veterinary care here. Furthermore, the hospital regularly performs spaying and neutering procedures on dogs and cats. The Susy Utzinger Foundation organizes and finances the Orphan Animal Hospital in Beirut, covering veterinary costs, medications, therapies, and care.
