In a place where mainly injured wild animals are treated and prepared for their return to the wild, emergencies involving dogs and cats are almost something out of the ordinary. In the middle of the rainforest in Peru, there is hardly any veterinary care. The nearest practice for “pets” is several hours away - hardly anyone here can afford such a trip.
That's why it's such a pleasure when the team at the Orphan Animal Hospital Peru, our SUST jungle clinic in Bello Horizonte, can help the pets from the village!
Puñetin, a very trusting male dog, was bitten in the eye by another dog two weeks ago and later also by a snake! After the owners asked us for help, he was rushed to our operating table and his eye had to be removed.
Despite the difficult jungle conditions, the operation went very well. Puñetin was initially a little unsettled in the unfamiliar surroundings, but he gratefully accepted the treats we offered him. He was soon allowed to return to his family - with his eye now permanently twinkling!
This is possible thanks to your commitment to the SUST-OAHs - professional and fast help for all animals in need:
