Help animals

The activities of SUST

All over the world, countless animals in overcrowded shelters live sadly or struggle for their survival in wild colonies. Day after day, even today, animals that have become inconvenient are still abandoned, deported or mistakenly kept for lack of better knowledge. The Susy Utzinger Animal Welfare Foundation contributes with effective means to the fact that animal suffering can be reduced or even prevented sustainably.

This animal welfare work is based on four pillars:

1. Competence Centre Animal Shelter: Animal shelters become high-quality transition stations for homeless animals, where animals are kept and promoted in a way that is appropriate for their species and finally transferred to good new places.

2. Neutering campaigns: Braking the animal misery

3. Education and training of specialists: Specialists are given the opportunity to optimise their knowledge and improve animal welfare.

4. Education of the population: love of animals with heart and mind

These four elements form the important basis for sustainable animal welfare projects.

Those animals that are not yet able to benefit from the effects of this reconstruction work and have been born into a world where they are not wanted need the emergency aid of SUST.

The SUST spay and neuter team in Romania is "unstoppable"!

June 2024

The team led by OAH-Bucharest veterinarian Dr. Irina Corbu-Rudnic, aside from the "normal daily clinic routine," is also on the road with the mobile SUST clinic, often over weekends, traveling through the rural areas of Romania to carry out spaying and neutering campaigns.

In these regions, there are hardly any veterinarians—and if there are, residents cannot afford a "regular" spaying or neutering. Spaying and neutering—and the educational efforts surrounding it—are the only sustainable ways to reduce animal suffering in the long term. By offering free spaying and neutering, not only can the cycle of unwanted young animals be broken, but it also alleviates the burden on overcrowded animal shelters and reduces health problems in animals. Together with ongoing educational efforts, the SUST spaying and neutering campaigns promote a culture of responsible pet ownership and show people how they can take responsibility for the well-being of their four-legged companions.

Thanks to your generous support, 1,554 animals were spayed or neutered in these campaigns from January to March 2024. Because the numbers are so impressive, here they are in detail: Pecineaga 254, Otopeni 319, Racari 101, Moreni 123, Jilava 208, Snagov January 248, Snagov February 69, Berceni 144, and 88 in Colpani.
