Reptiles: Do they need holding permits & expert opinions?

Keeping permit

Reptiles and amphibians are wild animals. Art. 89 TschV conclusively defines for which species a keeping permit from the cantonal veterinary authority and a certificate of competence according to Art. 85 Para. 3 lit. c TSchV or a professional training independent of the profession according to Art. 197 TSchV is required.

Expert opinion

For species with special requirements for maintenance and care, the expert opinion of an independent and recognized expert must also be submitted. In Art 92 TSchV, the species requiring an expert opinion are listed exhaustively.
